The lodge's main facility (which
will accommodate up to thirteen hunters) is located a few miles south east
of Winnipegosis Manitoba at the southern tip of Lake Winnipegosis.
This area is at the northern edge of the province's grain farming region,
and is west of the more populated (and more heavily hunted) Interlake
area.
This area has, in all probability,
the finest goose hunting in North America. Naturally, the success of
hunts of this sort depends in no small part on the amount of hunting
territory which may be legally accessed. John, together with
his family and associates, own about 10,000 acres and have access to
thousands more acres through various arrangements. This dwarfs
the hunting territory controlled by any of our competitors in this
area.
Goose hunting is typically done
over decoys in the grain fields where scouts have located birds the
evening before each morning's hunt. During the first two weeks of
the nonresident season, geese may only be hunted until noon, afternoons
are typically spent hunting ducks or bear for those who purchase a
combination hunt.
Hunters driving to Canada are
encouraged to bring their own equipment. While we have sufficient
equipment such as decoys, bringing your own will increase your
flexibility. Additionally, we discourage the use of steel
shot. We find that the hunters using Bismuth, Hevi Shot, or Tungsten
do far better than those using steel.
