ABOUT US.........

John - Owner of South Shore Lodge

John Procyshyn founded South Shore Lodge many years ago as a waterfowl (primarily goose) hunting operation.  For several years, the lodge catered to a small number of clientele whom returned year after year for the fall hunting.  In recent years, John and his associates have expanded South Shore's operations to include duck hunting, bear hunting, trophy whitetail and moose hunting.  Most recently, John's son Barret has added fishing to the list.  Guided packages available.

The lodge's main facility (which will accommodate up to thirteen hunters) is located a few miles south east of Winnipegosis Manitoba at the southern tip of Lake Winnipegosis.  This area is at the northern edge of the province's grain farming region, and is west of the more populated (and more heavily hunted) Interlake area.

This area has, in all probability, the finest goose hunting in North America.  Naturally, the success of hunts of this sort depends in no small part on the amount of hunting territory which may be  legally accessed.  John, together with his family and associates, own about 10,000 acres and have access to thousands more acres through various arrangements.   This dwarfs the hunting territory controlled by any of our competitors in this area.

Goose hunting is typically done over decoys in the grain fields where scouts have located birds the evening before each morning's hunt.  During the first two weeks of the nonresident season, geese may only be hunted until noon, afternoons are typically spent hunting ducks or bear for those who purchase a combination hunt.

Hunters driving to Canada are encouraged to bring their own equipment.  While we have sufficient equipment such as decoys, bringing your own will increase your flexibility.  Additionally, we discourage the use of steel shot.  We find that the hunters using Bismuth, Hevi Shot, or Tungsten do far better than those using steel.

Here is what some of our hunters have to say:

"Thank you for putting together such a great week, you couldn't have made it anymore memorable for Rick & I.  I will be looking forward to next year and our next change to laugh, visit and build more memories from home.  Thanks again."

PS - Please thank Lillian for all the great food and patience on the pelican deal!  It's got to take a lot out of a woman having to put with a bunch of red neck Iowa bear hunters and she does it with great stride!

"Dreams left alone are just wasted life that could have been special.  If words could express my feelings and joy right now, I would be able to thank you until the day my soul leaves this earth for the "fantastic" and amazing week that I have had with you and Tim & Janet.  This is living the high life!  Thank you "soooooooo" much for being the best bear hunting guy on earth.  In one short week you have gone to the #1 spot on my Christmas list.  With any luck at all I will be returning to Winnipegosis to live the dreams again and again."

"Thank you so very much for a great hunt a wonderful time.  Janet & I both enjoyed our selves very much.  I heard a man say one time: When you get old and all you can do is sit around the camp fire and smell the smoke, all you'll have are your memories, a man should have good hunting memories.  Boy you sure gave me a great memory that will stay with me all the days of my life."

"Thank you so much for everything, I'm so glad I came.  I enjoy the fishing so much and you and your wife were so wonderful to talk to.  The lodging and scenery and everything we learned was so fantastic.  I would love to come back some day and maybe if things go alright we will.  You all made us feel right at home and all the people of the town was so nice and friendly, I loved it.  And Lillian, thanks for the donuts.  We got a lot of good pictures and we leave with a lot of good memories."
